The Planet Earth (5)
Over an immeasurable time these beings became more and more involved with the material aspects of their lives. They discovered the future and the past, and reached out for things and conditions that had not come about, or clung to states that no longer obtained. They shrank, mentally as well as physically. In time fear came to replace love, power replaced openness, and the golden age was utterly forgotten.
Yet each one kept within their being a secret impression of this golden time of oneness and merging, inherited perhaps genetically or by some almost-vanished collective consciousness. Every life in the world was marked with an unrecognised yearning for the ancient past, a lonely desire that drove them to seek each other out, to couple or to gather in crowds, to dance and chant.
Early in your childhood you came to see speech as a gateway back to the age of gold. If only you could make a complete utterance, speak with clarity and truth the pain of your separation, all would be understood, would be healed, and the giants would return. You read incessantly, spoke and wrote, came to study language. Time and your knowledge brought us together here in the furthest ice. Now we walk the earth like giants. Joined by an umbilicus of pure information, we dance the meaning of our separated lives, make our utterance of light and electricity.
