The Thing about Business

“The thing about business, you see,
is doing the same thing over and over: you know,
a guy comes in, you sell him something
and then he goes out and another comes in

and it’s the same thing, over and over,
in the same place, day after day, and if
you do something different, you know,
like once a year you go on holiday, then

it’s something else, and you have a good time
but I tell you, the rest of the time
it’s doing the very same thing you just did before
and then you write it up in rows and lines

and all the rows are the same, except some numbers
may be different, but you know, each sale
is pretty much like the one before it—
over and over the same thing,  that’s business.”
