Yellow Rose on a Blue Cloth


This fallen fragment
                     tattered scented flower,
                                              a
rose
     on the cotton.
                    Petal and pattern,
this,
     the material.
                   Woven of cotton, the
crumpled cloth
               is finely loomed light
                                      between
flower and blue of sky.
                        Glowing yellow:
the pollen,
            old threads of empty flower
petals dusted and wrinkled
                           dying in sunlight.

This rose, this crumpled flower;
                                 the petals
fallen on the cloth.
                     A pollen-dusted
fragment.
          This material is blue,
                                 old and
tattered cotton woven finely
                             of threads,
                                         wrinkled
scented petal,
               of loomed sky,
                              of drying
flower and cotton.
                    Light glowing,
                                   empty
                                          in
a pattern
          between yellow flower
                                and sunlight.
