1  Ochre

In the mind there is a river
wider than five stone-throws
coursing among green
banks of trees, reeds and birds;
she is the colour of yellow ochre
when seen with the mind
but if the eye sees her she is
blue sky, green leaf, silver
flank of cloud or fish, red of
blood petal, black night;
she flows always down
down down with a long exhaling
reach, towards the sea
of which she is a single hair.
