Virtual Anthology of SA Poetry

Anna Varney

Shunted Around

Yesterday was the gentlest of days
made up of strokes.
Brush strokes
strokes of sun.
There were no bold gestures
no vast strides.
Only delicate ripples
were the music.
Now I am dark
heaving -
shedding skin.
I read modern poetry
watch the TV news.
Humankind is congested and tired.
Knowing no option
politicians stake out
their sham -
We have carried our navigators.
The Leaders reflect their people.
