Virtual Anthology of SA Poetry

The Streets of Cape Town

Roving the streets of Cape Town
We actively search for pleasure
While vagrants lie scattered at our feet
Like windfall apples buffeted by nightly gales
With our world whirling
We seek to hold ourselves erect
Ecstatic confabulations of vision
Rendering ourselves the self-appointed
Meandering elite

Fear of the Mother City

My drunken meanderings
Through this city of vice
Rape city

Radiating the core
The essence
Of womanhood

Afraid
That my lover
Is sitting next to me

Afraid of myself
In this city of lies
And delusions

My numb lips
Embrace my glass.
