My seven-year-old son Sky loves to play the piano. As he can't read music yet, but loves to improvise, I have painted some visual 'compositions' which he uses for inspiration. The method has worked well, and could be considered by anybody wanting to give a musical child scope without the restrictions of formal musical instruction, which can be stultifying.
